Summary:
People are mysteriously disappearing in the middle of the night with no clues left behind until are report shows the last video that someone took moments before they were reported missing. A frame from the video vaguely shows some sort of unknown life form before it attacked the missing person.

Now the unknown life forms have been discovered they stop being discreet when abducting people and now are abducting cities worth of people throughout the day being one of the biggest threats to the human race.

The government doesn't know how to fight back as our weapons are useless against them but still launches attacks on the aliens but the aliens don't fight back. If they did they could easily overthrow the human race but no one knows why they are hear and what they are planning.

Title Sequence Analysis

A title sequence I saw recently which I like was the title sequence to a TV show called 'Peaky Blinders'. This title sequence saves time in the show by following the characters round the setting in the opening scene. Each title is different as they are in a new setting to continue with the story and not waste 1-2 minutes of the show by having the same title sequence play in the beginning. The genre of the show is completely different to our sci-fi opening but I think we could incorporate a similar title sequence into our opening as I believe that the title sequence in Peaky Blinders has worked well at intriguing the audience with their sequence.

The title sequence starts out with a man on a horse going down an old dirt road while the locals begin the leave their houses.

The location of the setting appears on the screen in an old english font written in white to contrast with the background as the music begins to play and continues to play as the man on the horse carries on travelling.



We  hear diegetic noises like like the horse galloping, the locals talking and miners working. The use lots of longs shots to this is a good way to establish the setting they are in which is Birmingham, England 1919, post WW1.






Once the man on the horse has reached his destination the screen fades to black and the title appears on screen.

Audience Target Group

for our film I think that we should our target audience should be people with the age range of 12 to 40 onwards, I think this an appropriate age group because it creates a mass of audience that may be interested.

because our film is not going to have any swearing or violence in any scenes I  think the age 12 and over is suitable.

Region for our film will be for a global audience, however we are planning on attracting the UK audience for now.

Gender  our target gender for the film is mixed, we have included both sex's in the film so we hope that the target gender group falls in to both categories. It may appeal to men more because of the action that comes with the film, however the action might appeal to some women as well.

 

 

Title Sequences

I looked on www.creativereview.co.uk/cr-blog/2009/july/film-titles-list and www.artofthetitles.com for different title sequences to find one that we could create a similar one to. There are a few title sequences I like for specific reasons which create the tone and style of the film before you even start it. The 3 title sequences I like that will fit the style of our film are:



Se7en -  I like this title sequence for the font they use mixed with the background to create this sketchy mysterious look which I think would look great if we incorporate a title sequence similar to this one.

It Might Get Loud - I like the idea of different but similar style fonts for the part of the credits. This would be fun but may be confusing and misleading to our story if they create the sense of a different genre than Sci-fi.



JCVD - this title sequence displays the credits along with the storyline as the characters moves around. This would be the most beneficial to our film as we can used the credits in the progression of our story which will save time for us to film more to convey our story to the audience.

Audience Profile for our Film

For our audience profile I believe we should target a specific audience:





Age - The target audience age we should aim for is 12 - 30, I believe this age group is suitable as sci-fi genres are popular mostly between these ages and I believe our film will be able to target this age range as we will have it on a serious matter for the adults but keep it simple and entertaining for our younger audience. Our decided certificate is a 12/12a as we won't be having any explicit language or use of drugs and minimal violent scenes.



Gender - The target gender of our film is not going to play a big part in how we construct our film but our target we hope for is both but I feel that it will lean towards the male gender as the cast we have will include more males than females, our movie will appeal more to males but certain females will also enjoy the movie.







Education - I believe that the majority of the viewers of our film will  be in some sort of education. This will include students from high school to university students, I think college and university students are our best audience as they can be in many enrichments such as film clubs which are quite popular in universities.










Region - We will aim for a global audience but our film will most likely target audiences from England as all of our cast is English.







Interest - The audience for this film is for people who like the sci-fi genre or just have an interest in the unknown as our film is based on unknown life forms taking humans in the middle of the night. Sci-fi usually represent an idea of a 'nerd' or a 'geek' but our film will subvert from the typical sci-fi films like star wars or star trek to attract a wider range of an audience.

Style of Sci-Fi Films

Sci-fi films styles depend on the director but usually still have similar way to convey the sci-fi genre.

Lighting is used effectively by different directors in different ways with bright blue and white lights as a sign of stars in space or aliens or low key lighting the dark to establish the unknown threat in the beginning e.g. Alien.

The technology used also affects the type of film it could be from steam and atomic power technology to advanced technology e.g. the matrix 

Settings in Sci-Fi Films

Different settings are used in Sci-fi films depending on the sub-genre:

The general settings include houses, schools, streets, highways.

- Spaceships are used either in space travelling through the galaxy, in earths orbit or even on earth. e.g. Skyline

- Scientific labs are used for the smartest human characters during sci-fi films to create something to help or fight against the aliens. e.g.

- Military bases are used if a character get captured or if the government has taken the alien hostage. e.g. Super 8.

- Farm area or Barns are used as a common old fashioned setting from the earlier sci-fi films.
